SouthTech Preparatory Information Technology Program
Students in this introductory program review the history and explosive growth of computer-based technology. They learn how computers have become a part of today’s knowledge-based society and how they are used in nearly every industry. The program also looks at the jobs performed by information technology professionals and the various training, skills, and positions available in the Information Technology (IT) industry.
Internet Business Associate
Students enrolled in the IT program at SouthTech Preparatory learn how to work effectively in today’s business environment through their studies of various IT job-roles and the exploration of career opportunities within the industry.
Students will strive to earn an “Internet Business Associate” industry certification after learning about internet connection methods, internet protocols, the Domain Name System (DNS), cloud computing, mobile devices, basic functions of web browsers, the components of web addresses, as well as the utility of browsers in the business world.
Students will also work towards earning a “Site Development Associate” industry certification after learning essential webpage development skills. Students will learn to develop Websites using Hypertext Markup Language version 5 (HTML5) and Cascading Style Sheets (CSS). Students will also learn to write code manually, as well as use graphical user interface (GUI) authoring tools. This course of study will enable students to learn the knowledge and skills necessary to design or improve websites.
