The SouthTech Preparatory STEAM Program is a curriculum based on the idea of educating students in four specific disciplines — science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics — in an interdisciplinary and applied approach. Rather than teach the four disciplines as separate subjects, STEAM integrates them into a learning program based on real-world applications. The SouthTech Preparatory program also focuses on identifying and learning about STEAM related occupations. Students will have many opportunities to try new things and create something fantastic!
The following are components of the STEAM curriculum at SouthTech Preparatory:
Code.org
Students begin learning about Code. They create games and many other types of applications.
Spy Code Hackathon
Students will explore hacking while playing Spy Code Hackathon. Learning to decode while having fun!
Vex Robotics
Students receive hands-on experiences building robots. Each kit is supported through Vex Robotics. Students delve deeper into the world of code while constructing their own robot. Every day is an adventure!
3D Printers
After becoming familiar with coding, students will take their skills to a whole new level. They will learn about the world of 3D Printers.
Science Experiments
Students will learn about the scientific method and how to create their own science experiments using eCybermission. Students compete to see which Science Experiment will go to Nationals!
Hydroponics and Aquaponics
Agriculture careers are abundant in Florida. In this section, students will learn about hydroponic and aquaponic systems. Students will participate in the creation of their own system made from recycled materials, while also learning about the plants that they will grow and nurture.
Participant will learn about the chemistry needed for plant growth and create the perfect system for plant harmony.
